Mark Selby is a recognized authority on mobility, emerging technologies, and convergence. He has worked in the mobile, broadcast and IT industries for over 30 years.

Since 2018, Mark has served as Director of the Project Beyond Consortium that includes commercial, public sector and academic organisations focused on transport and logistics innovation, and intelligent mobility.

Mark is a Visiting Professor at the 5G/6G Innovation Centre at the University of Surrey.  He co-founded the 5G Innovation Centre and was a member of the Cloud-Assisted Real-time Methods for Autonomy research programme with Jaguar Land-Rover.  This programme supports connected vehicle, smart cities and IoT research.  From 2018 to 2022, Mark also worked closely with the Centre for Enzyme Innovation at the University of Portsmouth, on breakthrough plastic-eating enzyme research.

Before entering academia, Mark was Global Vice President at Nokia Corporation from 2004-2011.  As a member of Nokia’s Markets Management Team, he was responsible for Nokia’s €29Bn phone sales, marketing, retail, and supply chain globally.  As Global Vice President Multimedia, he led Nokia’s global mobile content, music services and DVBH digital TV business.

Prior to joining Nokia in 2004, he was Senior International Vice President at IMG Media, responsible for the group’s mobile activities in sports, entertainment, TV, radio and online, including production, rights, and technology.  During this time, he managed the acquisition and sale of digital rights for clients including Tennis Australia, Wimbledon, Manchester United and the EPL.

Other earlier roles include CEO of Mobile Channel Network, which designed, produced and delivered a wide range of mobile services, including Essential Sports, MTV mobile and Big Brother. He was also an Executive Director and co-founder of Health on the Net Foundation, an NGO for online healthcare development that included a major initiative to improve online health information quality.
